Located in the western portion of Alabama, Fosters is an unincorporated community situated in Tuscaloosa County. There are 2,706 people living in the community as of 2007. The community is named in honor of James Fosters who settled the area in which Fosters is located in 1818.
Although Fosters is a small community, there are several things to see and do within the surrounding area. Fosters is home several restaurants and diners including El Patron Mexican Grill and Crossroads Café. Locals enjoy eating at Crossroads Café where the service is wonderful and the food is delicious. Several businesses are located in the community as well. Fosters Feed & Garden Supply provides residents of the community with much of the food, grain, dirt, and other products they need to be successful in raising animals and gardening. Many community members will travel to nearby Tuscaloosa to shop and dine as well. Tuscaloosa, located about 13 miles north of Fosters and is home to many museums, city parks, bars, restaurants, and much more.
Fosters is located in a climate that experiences hot, humid summers and mild winters. Daytime temperatures during June, July, and August tend to remain in the low-90s. In addition to warm temperatures, rain is also very common during the summer months. Residents of the community should install central air conditioning units in their homes to remain comfortable when warm weather is present in the area. These systems should be regularly inspected by professional HVAC technicians as well.
The months of winter in Fosters are mild in comparison to other parts of the country. Temperatures during December, January, and February often do not dip below freezing at night and remain in the low-60s during the day. However, the community is not immune to cold fronts. Residents should prepare themselves for cold weather by investing in efficient heating systems for their homes.
